Tuesday Trinkets

When I decided to make my little blog I had one major criteria... I wanted it to be easy on the eyes :) I like to think that I am somewhat computer savvy (it helped growing up in a home with an electrical engineer), but I had zero knowledge of how to make a cute blog. This new header was my project for this afternoon. It isn't perfect and I will probably change it a million times as I figure out how to work everything, but I must say I am pretty proud of my efforts! This little blog is coming together bit by bit!

Besides this little project, I've been packing for our trip! Have I mentioned how excited I am? The only thing I am not looking forward to is the crazy Texas heat. The high in Atlanta today is around 92... I don't think the same can be said for Houston!

I pulled out our catstudio glasses today to get us in the mood for Texas. If you've never seen their products before, you should check out the website here. My parents gave us four of their glasses (Texas, Georgia, Houston and Atlanta). We gave my sister one of their Texas pillows before her move to Virginia and I love our cute glasses.

I don't know about everyone else, but my mom enjoys that I put a picture up with my posts. Even if no one else cares, it's worth it to keep my momma happy :) I thought she would especially enjoy this one...

Last thing, congratulations to my friend Heather (Kelley) Hernandez on her new baby boy! Heather and I went to high school together and she was a great friend to me when I was a little freshman and she was a wise senior :) Congrats Heather and Adrian!

Thanks for reading and to any friends who have found me on here and have blogs, let me know so I can keep up with what's happening in all of your lives! Hope you are all having fantastic weeks!

Countdown to Texas

Kyle and I are SO excited about our upcoming trip home to Texas. We have been talking about it daily for quite a while now and cannot wait for Wednesday to be here. I've been doing laundry to get ready and making a mental list of the things I need to pack (I wanted to start packing days ago out of sheer excitement but don't want my husband to think I am too crazy). In case you are wondering where all of this excitement is coming from, here are a few of the things I am looking forward to...
  • shopping with my momma (and hopefully pops!)
  • spending time at the lake
  • relaxing in the sun while floating on my amazing float (Kyle gave me a fabulous one for Christmas a few years ago)
  • dinner at Escalante's-Mom, consider this my official request :)
  • getting to see our families (minus Jenn but I will see her soon!)

In other news, things here in Midtown Atlanta got a little exciting today. Kyle called me while he was heading to a research meeting and told me to "walk over to campus if I wanted to see something crazy going on". Seeing as I am a girl who regularly reads People Magazine and checks the website almost daily, I immediately imagined that a movie is being shot in our area and Kyle has just had a celebrity sighting (because all celebrities come to Atlanta and hang out at Georgia Tech). Unfortunately this was not the case. A section of a parking deck had collapsed and the streets were filled with police cars, ambulances and fire trucks. The parking deck is used by several buildings in the area, one of which is the building where Kyle's office is located. Kyle's advisor had actually parked there today and although his car was not in the section that collapsed, he has no idea when they will let him have access to it. Luckily Kyle rides his bike to campus so our cars, as well as the two of us, are safe and sound!

I had planned on sharing a picture of the newlyweds celebrating our first month of marriage but my camera won't upload correctly. Instead, enjoy this picture of my recent trip to visit my beautiful big sis in Virginia. I cannot wait to visit her again in a few weeks!

Enjoy your Monday nights! We're having some delicious enchilada casserole and at least one of us will be watching The Bachelorette :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ps-does anyone know how to upload my pictures so that readers can click on them within my post and view them larger? Kyle doesn't have much to say about my new adventures in blogging but he did make that one request haha

More apartment progress...

We had a pretty low-key day here in ATL. Kyle's desk arrived this afternoon so we spent most of the day sitting around and waiting for the big delivery. It looks great in the room and is a much bigger workspace than what he had before. He's a pretty hard workin fella so he deserves the extra space!

We are getting very excited about the rest of our summer! We spent June getting the apartment fixed up and enjoying finally being in the same place. It has been nice to have some time to relax and get settled but we are looking forward to all of our fun events coming up! We have a trip back home to Texas next week (SO excited to be back in the lonestar state for the 4th of July), I'm heading to DC for a sister weekend with Jenn (we'll be seeing Billy Joel and Elton John!), Kyle's brothers and a friend are coming to visit us in Atlanta, Kelsey is getting married at the end of July and then it's back to Texas for Troy and Ivy's wedding! I'm excited to get to spend some time with our family and friends. It should be a fun rest of the summer!

Thanks for all of the comments and letting me know you're reading! Posts are much more fun with pictures so here's a little peek at our kitchen. I know a certain mom is wanting to see the new coffee table and desk so hopefully I will get those up here tomorrow :)

View from the entryway (I don't even know if you can call it that in an apartment haha)

The canisters were a wedding gift and I love them (thanks Millers!!)

I need a few more fun things to go on my little shelf. The chalkboard was last weekend's craft. I made it using chalkboard paint and a frame from Hobby Lobby.

I found the basket on sale at Hobby Lobby and we keep our placemats, napkins and napkin rings in it. The memo board is home to cards from friends and family and save the dates.

Have a great Saturday night!

Our humble abode...

While Kyle and I were planning the wedding, I also had the fabulously fun task of picking out new furniture and accessories for our apartment. I'm always up for some shopping and decorating so I was very excited about my task. I found a kitchen table that we loved months before the wedding, we picked out a great set of bedroom furniture and perfect sofa on my last visit here before the big move and last week stumbled upon a perfect desk for the grad student himself. Finding a coffee table was not such an easy task...

Our living room, dining room and Kyle's computer 'study' are one big space. All of the furniture we have in there is black (except for our beautiful red couch) so we were sure we could easily find the perfect black coffee table. We had four criteria: storage, no glass, a reasonable price, and most importantly that it would look great with everything else (that last one was more important to one of us than the other!). I looked everywhere to find something . I have been on every furniture website known to man and we ventured to countless furniture stores here in town, all to no avail. I even took one solo trip to a furniture store on the wrong side of town. Of course, I didn't realize it was a bad part of town until I had driven 20 minutes from home and ended up too nervous to even get out of the car. Needless to say, I spent a lot of much time trying to find something that we would both like. My sister has taught me to be a pro at finding great things on the internet and I was starting to doubt my searching skills :)Well ladies and gentlemen, we found one today! It has everything we were looking for and the price was great! We bought it from a great family owned furniture store outside of Atlanta and were even able to fit it in Kyle's car and bring it home today. Kyle's desk gets delivered tomorrow and then our apartment will be completely furnished and I can focus on the much more enjoyable task of decorating! I am very excited with our fabulous find and even happier that I no longer have to spend my evenings searching the internet for the perfect fit.

I don't have any pictures of our beautiful new table, but will take some after the desk delivery tomorrow. For now, here are some pictures of our bedroom so far. I still want to hang a few more things on the walls... I'm keeping my eyes out for curtains and need something over our bed. So far I am loving it, just needs a few finishing touches. Enjoy!

the hallway leads to our enormous closet and the laundry room

lots of drawer space was a necessity :)

I don't spend much time at my desk right now, but it looks out into the courtyard of our complex

Enjoy your Friday night! We just got back from a little walk which may or may not have included a trip to the Marble Slab by campus.... Now it's time to enjoy my new furniture and relax with the People magazine that came in the mail today!

ps-thanks to my folks, Jenn and Leanna for reading :)

Hello from Georgia

Since I am officially a married lady far from my beloved Texas, I thought
this would be a fun way to keep friends and family updated on s
tories and pictures from our life in Atlanta. I am far from a computer genius so I am still figuring out how to make my little blog be easy on the eyes. Wish me luck with that!

Life in ATL is fabulous so far! Our apartment is coming together great and I am starting to get used to the idea that this is my new home. I've been taking pictures of the apartment as each little area starts to get pulled together so I'll get those up here soon!

I'm pretty confident that the only people who will be seeing this first post will be my parents and sister, but hello to anyone else who stumbled upon the newest way I will be keeping myself occupied during my days here :) I'm off to focus on the results episode of So You Think You Can Dance...

Have a lovely Thursday evening!
Out to dinner with our parents in Atlanta
